How we complete an evaluation:
We obtain a complete developmental history from you. This can take place over the telephone or in person, and includes the child’s development, previous evaluations, current concerns, and what you hope to learn from the evaluation. With your help, we gather all the necessary medical and educational records. We observe the child in his or her natural setting. This is generally school, but can also include camp, home, or child care settings. We gather information about the child from the adults in these settings. Your child comes into our office for testing. Typically, this takes place over the course of a day, with lunch breaks and stretch breaks. Additional testing sessions can be scheduled as needed. Many parents, particularly those of younger children, are given the opportunity to observe the testing process. We consolidate all of the information we have gathered about your child into a comprehensive report, and meet with you to discuss the results of the evaluation. We help you work with your child’s school on implementing our suggestions.
